I love to see how proud we all become of our runners success almost calling it our own when they win medals as they have this past week. The news headlines move away from the norm of sensational politics to how “we” achieved a 1-2-3 finish and as citizens we let go of the petty things that separate us and for a moment become one nation. When I reflect on our runners victory, I try look at their success behind the lens of what has made them world champions and ask why we are not a world champion state yet we say the we carry the same spirit.
Think of the popular bracelets won by Christians with the acronym “WWJD” (What Would Jesus Do) and how that simple statement can affect the everyday actions of those that truly believe it. As citizens who see the many problems we face, what difference could we make if we truly carried the spirit of a world class work ethic, discipline and focus, like our runners there would be no limits to our greatness.
I hope for a Kenya that carries the spirit of her heroes Large Tea Cups Cute Tea Cups Wholesale Vintage Tea Sets Amber Bangle Bracelets from the smaller things like taking responsibility for the litter on streets to the mammoth fight against corruption where we each have a role. Our athletes work so that we have a heritage to celebrate but as a people we fail to protect that heritage by not fighting to save our wildlife, natural resources, jobs etc from the interests of the greedy.
Can Kenyans truly question what is going on, so that we move from a state that is not only willing to celebrate the good times but one that is ready to fight the hard battles supporting the heroes that fight today’s challenges and not waiting for their death or global recognition to acknowledge the validity of their cause. Then our pride will no longer come from the fact that we share the same passport but that we share the same spirit, one that is representative of our fight to be a nation that not only produces but acts like world champions.
