The One you Can’t Live Without

Mko sawa? {Y’all alright?}

It seems the sun has heard your complaints and cries against the heat that has tormented you in the last couple of weeks. We hope you’re enjoying the cool and that you’re mellow now. Are you mellow?

People of  Chelsea, you’re not trending on twitter so we’ll assume the week and the people around you are kinder to you.

If these 2 things we’ve highlighted are anything to go by, then it is proof enough that no situation in life is permanent. And while there are things that take longer to change than others, social media is absolutely one of those that change way too fast. Excluding the inventors who create on these platforms and the innovators, there’s only a handful of people who are swift enough to ride the waves as soon as they see them. Majority of you may belong to the other categories of adopters.

Are we qualified to utter things such as “since the days of old” when talking about the inception of social media? For most of us, when we think of the internet, we may think of the sites and platforms we visit regularly such as Google, Facebook, Instagram and so on. If you were to go back in time you’d probably mention MySpace and other socializing sites that existed before it or after it such as 2go… Still, you will not have gone travel back in time properly. It’s been around 41 years since the age of the internet started.

Sobering right!

To say things have changed since then would be an understatement. It’s been a whole evolution and then some. We couldn’t have predicted then {the inventors definitely did} social media would have been what it is today. When it touches on social media management, there are things that matter to social media managers that may not mean a thing to a regular person.

For instance, you may not think that being able to schedule a post is a big thing. After all, you only post when you feel like it. I remember a time when we were on the lookout for a scheduling option for Instagram. That search lasted a good 2 years. When it finally came, if we had fireworks stocked up, we would have lit the sky that day.

Social media managers aside, we’re pretty sure that there are changes to social media platforms that have revolutionized the way you interact on them.

Do you remember how we thought the world tilted on its axis when twitter increased characters to 240?

Insta and WhatsApp stories?  Live video? IGTV? To mention just a few?

Can you imagine chatting without GIFs or memes for that matter?

All these changes were introduced to enrich the experience of interacting on digital platforms and so far, we’re loving all of it and we’re here for more.

While we highlight the things that have stayed, we can’t fail to mention the things that didn’t or aren’t staying. You may not remember the Instagram update that lasted a whole 17 minutes which would have had people scrolling horizontally instead of vertically.

Or the fact the Google+ will cease to exist after April this year. You must have read that Facebook is merging all its apps inboxes into one sometime this year? Testing has already started so you’ll definitely be catching updates anytime now if you haven’t already.
